February 8, 2011: Friends gather at a giant writers convention where we honor our beloved Rane Arroyo.
March 16, 2010: I write about spring, fear, and writing. Think Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas without the pomposity. You'll want to grab a mint julep for this one. I promise. Read all about it.
Important Update, January 14, 2010
I have been in touch with
my friend and fellow writer, Edwidge Danticat. Edwidge is Haitian
American and writes more eloquently about that country than anyone I
know. She has family members missing in Haiti. In an email to me this
morning she wrote, "I
am encouraging folks to support, if they can, organizations that are
already on the ground and can immediately start helping people." She
recommends Partners in Health http://pih.org and the American Red Cross http://www.redcross.org/.
Please do as Edwidge requests and give as generously as you can to either organization.
Thank you.
Heart and soul,
Connie May

As
you've surely heard by now, a devastating earthquake hit Haiti
overnight. The suffering there is immense and the need for help is
massive. Please take a few moments out of your day to give to the
Haitian relief effort. There are many ways to do so. For those who
are tech savvy:
Text "Haiti" to 90999 right now from your mobile phone and give $10 to the American Red Cross
or
Text "Yele" to 501501 to donate $5 via your cell phone to donate to Wyclef Jean's Yele organization.
Relief
agencies across the globe have geared up to help the Haitian people.
If you prefer to give to an organization other than the ones I have
recommended, please seek them out immediately. You might consider Catholic Relief Services or Episcopal Relief and Development.
Whatever organization you elect to use, please give now. The need is great and time is of the essence.
